LICEO STATALE “G. P. Vieusseux” di Imperia

Our school

Partner

Our school consists of three fields of study: Liceo Classico (Classical High School), Liceo Scientifico (Scientific High School) and Liceo Scientifico option of Applied Sciences. (Applied Sciences Scientific High School).

The teaching staff is made up of 65 teachers; the students enrolled in the courses are at the moment 764 .

The main building of our school is situated in the city of Imperia and the other building is situated in the hinterland territory that from the coast goes up to the mountainous area,in a little village called Pieve di Teco. The socio-economic context is very homogeneous, which can be defined as a medium-high.

Classical High School

Its strong humanistic imprint represents the continuity between the past tradition and the scientific preparation towards modernity. Students who choose the Classical High School love to grasp the current events in the teaching of the past and its tradition, have a good linguistic sensitivity, a strong attitude towards historical links and reflection. Our students are interested into the anthropological aspects of knowledge and are able to acquire the cultural tools and skills in order to decode the complex reality in which we live. This kind of field of study is suitable for motivated, aware students aimed at developing a mature critical sense in the everyday life. As the famous classicist L. Canfora says: “it teaches to reason and to resist”, and to seek creative solutions to face the future.

Scientific Lyceum ( Applied Sciences option)

It is the most innovative field of study, designed to meet the growing needs of scientific preparation required by the progress in our society. Humanistic culture is still considered an important field, but the scientific and technological aspect is clearly privileged, combined with laboratory practice (which is not excluded from the other fields of study, but which finds more space here). Students who choose this type of high school, love Science, experimentation and information technology; they are very skilled concerning the practical sense and are curious about their surrounding reality, developing problem solving skills.

Scientific high school

This field of study is the effective compromise between the other two just mentioned above. A field of study which gives importance to both humanistic and scientific culture. Scientific culture is firmly intertwined with the humanistic one, and the two mutually enhance each other: the students are given a 360-degree cultural enrichment, which will help them to successfully tackle any university faculty. Students who choose this course aimed at achieving a complete and balanced education, and appreciate tradition and innovation at the same time.

Emanuela Damonte

Foreign Languages teacher

I have been teaching foreign languages for 10 years and I have been part of this school since 2018.I have always been interested into cultures and languages: my degree allows me to teach English, German and Spanish. I worked for several years on cruise ships as responsible of the management and I attended one gap year in Nottingham, studying at the Nottingham Trent university. The English teaching program at school focuses on the main grammar rules and the development of the four main skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) for the first 2 years, while from the 3rd year to the 5th (and final) year students are taught literature from the origin (for example Beowulf or Chaucer) to the modern authors. Through flipped classroom, peer to peer strategy, cooperative learning, and frontal lessons, the aim is to provide the students an English B2 level with good skills in the communication area.
